With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Scales has been a celebrated figure in his role as an orthopedic surgeon with Andover Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Group since 2016, as well as a preceptor of physician assistant students at Marywood University since 2007. He has simultaneously served as a member of the consulting staff at St. Clare’s Hospital since 1991 and a full attending staff member at Newton Memorial Hospital since 1986. Setting the foundation for his successful occupation, Dr. Scales commenced his career as a general practitioner at Catholine Gibbs Memorial Health Center in 1980.
Earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, cum laude, from Harvard University, Dr. Scales also holds a Master of Science and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey with Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery in 1979 and 1980 before specializing in orthopedic surgery in 1982 and 1986.
A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Scales has also been a presenter, lecturer, and interviewee of several television programs. Additionally, he acts as a clinical peer reviewer of CID Management and an advisor of the management committee and on the board of directors for Premier Health Associates. In recognition of his exceptional achievements in medicine, he was an honoree of the Harvard Club of New Jersey Scholar in 1971. In addition, he has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
