Burton Angrist, Professor of Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychopharmacology and research.

Drawn to the neurological workings of the human body, Dr. Angrist has fortified a career in examining psychological quandaries and preparing future generations of psychiatric doctors as an educator. He prepared for a career in these fields by first earning a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College in 1958. He continued his education at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, receiving a Doctor of Medicine in 1962. He then served as a fellow of the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology, also becoming a lifetime fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. Dr. Angrist completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychopharmacology at the NYU/Bellevue Hospital, and during this time he was mentored under the tutelage of Dr. Sam Gershon.

In 1967, Dr. Angrist became a staff psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital, and from 1980 to 1998, he provided his skills as a staff psychiatrist with the New York Harbor Health Care System with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. A veteran himself, having served in the US Army Reserve from 1964 to 1969, Dr. Angrist has been an instrumental figure as a professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine since 1980. His achievements in the field include researching the effects of central nervous stimulant drugs on schizophrenia. He has received grants from the National Institute of Mental Health from the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Angrist became a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. in 1973. Throughout his career, he has maintained affiliation with the Psychiatry Research Society, the Society of Biological Psychiatry, the American Alpine Club, and the Vulgarian Mountain Club. When not working, he enjoys outdoor sports, canoeing, rock climbing, and scuba diving.
