Eddie Abdalla, Medical Director at Atlanta Liver Pancreas Surgery Specialists, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in general surgery.

Dr. Abdalla became involved in his industry because he was intrigued by how the body worked. He found it was natural to pursue a career in surgery, as he is adept at making difficult decisions. He was most intrigued by liver surgery, but when he finished his residency the only option for him to pursue this type of training was in Paris, France, so he opted to study at the University of Michigan instead, earning a Bachelor of Science in cellular and molecular biology and a Doctor of Medicine in 1993. He completed a general surgery internship and residency at the University of Florida, Gainesville and continued with fellowships in surgical oncology and postdoctoral research at the Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. In 2003, Dr. Abdalla was able to follow his passion by completing a hepatobiliary surgery fellowship at the Beaujon Hospital in Paris, France in 2003.

Dr. Abdalla has worked in a variety of positions in the medical field, as both a surgeon and instructor. Since 2017, he has been the medical director of the Liver and Pancreas Program at the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute. In 2011, he took on the roles of chair, professor of the Department of Surgery, and Division Director of Surgical Oncology for the Lebanese American University. Furthermore, Dr. Abdalla has been the Chief of Surgery, Section Head of Oncology, and Hepatobiliary Surgery at the University Medical Center-Rizk Hospital in Lebanon, and he previously served in various teaching roles at the University of Texas and the adjoining M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Since 2013, he has served on the editorial board of the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery. In 2008, he took on the positions of editorial board member for the Annals of Surgical Oncology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Abdalla considers the highlight of his career helping to advance the way we treat patients and seeing sick patients get well. He also notes contributing to the change in the way he treats the diseases he specializes in. Throughout his career, he has been recognized on numerous occasions for his work. In 2017, he received the acknowledgement of Most Honored Professionals on the American Registry, and in 2016 and 2013, Vitals presented him with the Compassionate Doctor Award. He has also received the America’s Top Surgeons Award from the Consumers’ Research Council of America and the Patients’ Choice Award from the American Registry. Dr. Abdalla has also been recognized as a Top Doctor with Castle Connolly, and as Teacher of the Year and a Clinical Excellence Award from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He maintains affiliation with such organizations as the Lebanese Society for General Surgery, the Surgical Council on Resident Education, the National Organization for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, the American College of Surgeons, the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the International ALPPS Registry Scientific Committee.
