A celebrated figure in the medical field, Dr. D’Allura has amassed nearly 30 years of professional excellence in his areas of expertise. An associate director of UNC Regional Physicians at UNC Healthcare since 2013, he formerly served as an associate director of osteopathic medical education at Duke University from 2012 to 2013. Prior to these appointments, he served as a physician with Cape Fear Valley Medical Center from 2010 to 2013, Emcare, Inc., from 2009 to 2010, Premier Health Care Services, Inc., from 2007 to 2009, and the Holzer Clinic from 2005 to 2008. Having begun his career as a managing partner of Flashner Medical Partnership and associate physician at Moriches Medical Care from 1989 to 1992, he subsequently acted as associate physician at DiGiovanna Family Care from 1991 to 1992 and Tippecanoe Family Physicians from 1992 to 1998. He has also served as a family physician for a number of other medical centers and facilities throughout the state of Ohio.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. D’Allura formerly served as program director of osteopathic family medicine at Duke/VCOM Dual Family Medicine Residency Program from 2012 to 2013. Additionally, he has served as an expert witness in several malpractice defense cases and has written case reviews, depositions, and testimonies for both family practices and urgent cares. He has further held the role of associate clinical professor at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
In preparation for his career, Dr. D’Allura sought a formal education, first obtaining a Bachelor of Science in pre-professional studies, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1982. He followed this accomplishment with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, with honors, from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine at New York Institute of Technology in 1986. Subsequently, he completed his internship at Coney Island Hospital and residency at Jamaica Hospital prior to delving into the field. Dr. D’Allura has been certified to practice medicine in the states of North Carolina and Ohio, and he is a diplomate of family medicine by the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine.
A leading voice in the field, Dr. D’Allura has maintained affiliation with several industry-related organizations, including the American Osteopathic Association, the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine, the Urgent Care Association of America, the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association, and Alpha Epsilon Delta. Dr. D’Allura has been recognized as a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
In recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, Dr. D’Allura has accrued several accolades throughout his career. In 2013, Duke University offered him a teaching fellowship for his contributions to the health care industry. In addition, he received the Excellence in Gastroenterology Award in 1986. Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who’s Who in 2017, he has been inducted into several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
Married to Tammie Hall Grisso since 2012, Dr. D’Allura is the proud father of three children. In his spare time, he enjoys model railroading, train collecting, audio and video entertainment, computer research, and photography.
