She holds multiple patents in the field and served as a principal investigator for several clinical trials from 1998 to 2006.
Dr. Wirostko always knew she wanted to be a doctor and saw firsthand how rewarding the career could be as her father was an ophthalmologist and professor at Columbia’s Arts and Science Institute. She followed in his medical footsteps, first earning a Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, from Cornell University in 1987. She then attended Columbia University and received a Doctor of Medicine in 1991. Dr. Wirostko completed an internship in transitional medicine at Hackensack Meridian Health, continuing with an ophthalmology residency at Columbia University. Following this, Dr. Wirostko was made chief resident at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University and became a glaucoma fellow at Cornell University. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners and is licensed to practice in the state of Utah.
A leading voice in the field, Dr. Wirostko has maintained professional affiliation with a variety of organizations, including the American Glaucoma Society, the Utah Ophthalmology Society, the Glaucoma Research Foundation, and Women in Ophthalmology. Furthermore, she holds the honor of being a fellow with the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Wirostko has served, chaired, and volunteered with numerous committees and organizations, including the Ocular Diseases & Drug Discovery Conferences. She has taught at Columbia University, volunteered at the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and served as Chief Medical Officer of Altheos.
Since 2009, Dr. Wirostko has been consistently ranked among America’s Top Ophthalmologists. Furthermore, she has been a grantee of The Glaucoma Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense, USTAR, and the National Science Foundation. She has received additional awards from the Moran Eye Center, Columbia University, the New York Academy of Medicine, and Pfizer Inc.
