Paul Kuy-Seang Ky, Interventional Spine Specialist at Advanced Pain Solutions, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.

Currently thriving as an interventional spine specialist and owner at Advanced Pain Solutions, Dr. Ky faced a lot of obstacles before obtaining his current level of success and expertise. He was separated from his parents by the Khmer Rouge when he was just 7 years old, and by the time his father found him, he had survived in a child labor camp with his younger brother for three years and five months. They immigrated to the United States as Cambodian refugees in 1979, and slowly cemented their place in society. Dr. Ky was illiterate when he first arrived in the U.S. because the Khmer Rouge closed schools, but he worked hard to improve his English, and learned five other languages as well. As a result, he was able to improve his proficiency in the sciences and began leaning toward the medical fields.

Dr. Ky diligently pursued his newfound interest over the next 10 years, first completing coursework in acupuncture medicine at Xiamen University in China in 2000 and earning a DO from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in California in 2004. He then garnered hands-on experience as a family medicine intern at the Downey Medical Center at the Western University of Health Sciences in 2005, a resident in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the School of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University in 2008, and as a fellow in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the School of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University in 2009. That year, Dr. Ky opened his practice, offering intervention spine techniques including epidurals, rhizotomies, radiofrequency ablations, endoscopic spine surgeries, and kyphoplasty. His duties also include spinal stenosis treatment, electrodiagnostic studies, and discogram procedures.

A respected voice in his community, Dr. Ky is a member of numerous organizations, including the American Osteopathic Association, the Spine Interventional Society, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He has coauthored pieces such as “Independent Medical Examinations: Facts and Fallacies,” “Validation of ICD-9 code 787.2 for Identification of Individuals with Dysphagia from Administrative Databases,” and “Supratentorial Regions of Acute Ischemia Associated With Clinically Important Swallowing Disorders: A Pilot Study.”
