With more than 50 years of helping patients and preparing future generations of medical professionals in the field of dermatology, Dr. Caro is now able to enjoy his retirement and reflect on a successful career. Not only was Dr. Caro an esteemed faculty member at Northwestern University, but he worked at a private practice since 1967. Prior to these positions, Dr. Caro taught as an assistant instructor at the University of Pennsylvania and as an assistant in medicine at the University of Illinois.

In addition to his primary roles, Dr. Caro has been a member of the Medical Executive Committee at Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and an attending physician at the institution. He served as an attending physician at Wesley Memorial Hospital, as a consultant for the Chicago Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium, and as Chief of the Dermatology Section of the MacDonald Army Hospital. Dr. Caro was a Captain in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve from 1962 to 1964.

Following an early interest in science and medicine, Dr. Caro first earned a Bachelor of Science in medicine at the University of Illinois in 1957. He continued at the institution to receive an MD in 1959. He then interned at Cook County Hospital, completing a residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois and a residency in dermatology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Furthermore, Dr. Caro was an Earl D. Osborne Fellow in Dermal Pathology with the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology from 1966 to 1967. From 1977 to 1980, Dr. Caro was the associate editor for the Year Book for Pathology and Clinical Pathology, he was an editorial board member of the journal Cutis from 1975 to 2014, and an editor of the Chicago Dermatological Society from 1971 to 1973.

Throughout his career, Dr. Caro has been recognized for his contributions. He received the Gold Medal from the Chicago Dermatological Society, the Clark W. Finnerud Award from the Dermatology Foundation, the Founders Award from the Chicago Dermatological Society, and the Gold Award for Science Exhibit for the American Academy of Dermatology.
