Lance Talmage, Professor at the College of Medicine and Life Science at the University of Toledo, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
An expert in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Talmage has been serving the community of Toledo, Ohio, for more than 30 years. He started as the medical director for the Center for Women’s Health in Toledo and as a professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Toledo in 1987, advancing to the position of interim chair and professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2014. In addition, he has also served in leadership positions such as vice president, supervising secretary, and member of the State Medical Board of Ohio, member of the Toledo Hospital Foundation Board, president of the Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County, and president of the medical staff at Toledo Hospital, a subsidiary of Promedica.
Outside of his civilian medical service, Dr. Talmage also lent his talents to the U.S. Army. He was a flight surgeon in the 24th Infantry Division from 1966 to 1969, and was the brigadier general of the 112th Medical Brigade of the Ohio Army National Guard from 1995 to 1997. Additionally, he was part of the military liaison committee of the American Board of Medical Specialties from 2014 to 2015, and is a member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, the Military Officers Association of America, the National Guard Association of the United States, and Post 334 of the American Legion.
Dr. Talmage prepared for his career by completing a residency at the University of Michigan from 1969 to 1973 after earning an MD from the University of Michigan in 1964 and a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Toledo in 1960. Active in his professional circles, he joined such organizations as the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the American College of Surgeons, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry, Inc.
In recognition of Dr. Talmage’s contributions, he was selected as an honoree of the Ottawa Hills Hall of Fame by the Ottawa Hills Foundation in 2014. He was the recipient of the Gold T Award in 2009, the Distinguished District Service Award from the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2004, and the Outstanding Chemical Engineer Graduate Award from the University of Toledo in 2002 and 2003. He was also recognized as an Outstanding Team Physician by the Ohio High School Athletic Association and with the Blue T Award in 2002. For his military service, he was the recipient of the Garde Nationale Trophy from The National Guard Association of the United States in 1998 and the Decorated Legion of Merit. He was named to the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2001.
