Natasha Tiffany, Physician and Researcher at Oregon Oncology Specialists, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in oncology.
Board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, Dr. Tiffany initially became involved in her specialty because it allows her to spend a lot of time with patients, and, having worked in a cancer clinic during her residency, she knew it was where she was meant to be. She completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology/medical hematology at Oregon Health & Science University, and she holds a Bachelor of Arts in neuroscience and a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory. In addition, she earned an MD, cum laude, from Oregon Health & Science University, and finished both an internship and residency in internal medicine at Harvard Medical School Massachusetts General Hospital.
Now a physician at Oregon Oncology Specialists and an affiliate assistant professor at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine, Dr. Tiffany hopes to leave a mark on the field any way she can. Some of her achievements include research in prognostic factors and jaw and renal complications among multiple myeloma patients treated with zoledronic acid, research in high-dose pulse calcitriol, docetaxel and estamustine for androgen-independent prostate cancer, research in imatinib mesylate and zoledronic acid in androgen independent prostate cancer, research in progressive hippocampal loss of immunoreactive GLUT3, the neuron-specific glucose transporter, after global forebrain ischemia in the rat, and the characterization and distribution of basic fibroblast growth factor containing cells in rat hippocampus injuries resulting from bicycle collisions. Dr. Tiffany has published her findings in six papers in medical journals, and shares them through lectures at local oncology symposia.
Dr. Tiffany has been recognized throughout her career for her contributions. She received the Outstanding Student Award from Gate Pharmaceuticals in 1998, and a summer research fellowship from the American Heart Association, Inc., in 1991. She attributes her success to excellent mentors, an education at one of the best training hospitals in the country, and a tireless work ethic. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Medical Association, and the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG).
Looking toward the future, Dr. Tiffany hopes to become more involved with cancer care in her own community while continuing her efforts in her practice. She has already started to work toward this goal, serving as the medical oncology director, the chair of the thoracic committee, the vice chair of the breast cancer committee and the tumor board chair of the Salem Cancer Institute at Salem Health, and as a member of the board of directors of Willamette Clinical Research (now the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute).
When Dr. Tiffany isn’t working, she enjoys playing the piano, hiking, swimming, exercising, and spending time with her family.
