Christopher Azzoli, Medical Oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Medicine.

Primarily with the Massachusetts General Hospital in the division of hematology oncology, Dr. Azzoli has also been serving as a visiting assistant professor with Harvard Medical School since 2012, as well as co-chair of the thoracic guideline advisory group of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is an accomplished physician and educator, recognized with a Fellowship Teaching Excellence Award from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2012 for his work on solid tumors. Dr. Azzoli is also an active member of the American Association of Cancer Research and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.

An alumni of Harvard University, Dr. Azzoli earned a BA in history and science, magna cum laude, before studying with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to earn a MD in 1996. He joined Memorial Sloan-Kettering in 1999 as a fellow in medical oncology, and worked there until 2006, when he became an instructor of Weill Cornell. Dr. Azzoli earned the title of assistant professor of medicine there and served until 2012. In a clinical setting, he has worked as an assistant attending physician for the Memorial Hospital in New York. He has also conducted research with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as a National Institutes of Health Research Scholar. Prior to his current position, Dr. Azzoli held the roles of faculty education coordinator and regional network affiliate tumor board and treatment guideline coordinator at Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

In addition to research and teaching, Dr. Azzoli has also contributed to peer reviews for the New England Journal of Medicine, Cancer, Clinical Cancer Research, the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, the Journal of Surgical Oncology, and the American Journal of Clinical Pathology. Since 2011, he has been editor-in-charge of online biannual updates for thoracic oncology for the ninth edition of “Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology.” Dr. Azzoli’s work has been funded by pharmaceutical firms, and he is currently working on cryoablation of enlarging tumors in patients with metastatic lung cancer with the assistance of a William Wood Foundation grant.
