Stephen Kalani Brady, MD, Physician at Straub Medical Center, Hawaii Pacific Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Medicine.
Dr. Brady has taught as an associate professor of the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa since 2003, in addition to serving with Straub as a physician since 1984. He was the interim chair of the native Hawaiian health department with John. A. Burns from 2009 to 2011, and was the founding chair of the Hawaii Consortium for Continuing Education. Dr. Brady finds caring for Hansen’s Disease patients in Kalaupapa the most rewarding aspect of his career, and attributes his success to taking advantage of opportunities and listening to his patients.
Dr. Brady is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and has appeared in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who in the World. He has wanted to help people in the medical field since he was three, and earned an AB, cum laude, from Harvard University in 1977. One year later, he completed a MPH from the University of Hawaii, and went on to postgraduate coursework there, ultimately earning a MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. Dr. Brady returned to complete an internship and residency with the University of Hawaii before holding a string of teaching and clinical positions in the island state.
With no intention of leaving his position any time soon, Dr. Brady is the current editor of the Hawaii Journal of Medicine and Public Health and has been the co-host of “Ask the Doctor”, the KHON Morning News segment, since 1996. He was host of “UH on Call” and “Health in Paradise” as well, and continues to serve as a commander with the U.S. Merchant Marine. Dr. Brady has also given his time as clubmaster to the Boy Scouts of America, and is a trustee of the Saint Louis School. He has received numerous awards and positions for his medical excellence, including a 2015 O’o Award from the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce and the title of governor of the Hawaii chapter of the American College of Physicians from 2009 to 2013.
