Dr. Simon has put his extensive training and education in the medical profession to good use, currently serving for SDG LLC, a professional services firm that leverages clinical research in the context of FDA regulations. He has held this position since 2006, but has more than three decades of experience. One of his earliest positions was working on the staff of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which he maintained from 1981 to 2001. He participated with Omeract from 1999 to 2001 and was the Division Director of Analgesic, Anti-Inflammatory and Ophthalmogolic DP with the FDA in the early 2000s. He gained further experience as a consultant with Leerink Swann, and as a consultant and board of directors member of Savient Pharmaceuticals. In addition to these positions, he directed graduate medical education and rheumatology clinical research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Simon has also served as the associate chief of medicine for external affairs at the center.
Dr. Simon prepared for this career in medicine and leadership by earning an MD from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1976. He served as an assistant resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1976 to 1978 and went on to complete an internship and clinical and research fellowship at the institution. In 2003, his hard work was recognized by the Lupus Research Institute when he received the Scientific Leadership Award. He maintains affiliation with the American College of Rheumatology and has held committee positions with Omeract, the Osteoarthritis Research Society and the Lupus Research Alliance.
