Kenneth Sokolski, Medical Director at The Newport Center for Behavioral Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatry.
Dr. Sokolski leads the Newport Center in treating conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and panic disorder, using his many years of psychiatric experience with autistic children and as a counselor for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is well known for developing protocols for children as a lead physician with Defeat Autism Now in Dallas, Texas, and has continued to teach budding psychiatrists as director of the education residency program for psychopharmacology at the University of California, Irvine since 2011.
A California native, Dr. Sokolski was born in Los Angeles to Edward Alter and Renee T. Sokolski. He is an alumnus of Occidental College, and earned a master’s degree from the University of California in San Diego followed by a medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Sokolski practiced psychiatry for three years before founding his practice in Newport Beach, and joined the mood disorder clinic of the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Health Care Systems as chief psychiatrist in 1991. He has written numerous papers for psychiatric journals, and has supported the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, the National Medical Honor Society, the American Psychiatric Association, and the West Coast College of Biological Psychiatry.
While serving in an official capacity, Dr. Sokolski also volunteered for Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was honored for his many years of psychiatric service with a Vincent Carroll Research Award, as well as a 1977 At Large Marshall Scholarship and a 1993 to 1996 Research Advanced Grant from Veterans Affairs Health Care Systems. He was accepted into the honor societies Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa, and has also studied marine biology with the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Dr. Sokolski was selected for inclusion in seven volumes of Who’s Who in America and the 2011 to 2012 volume of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. He is the father of Eleasa Ariel and Aaron David with his wife, Debra Jane Krachman, and enjoys photography, creative writing, guitar, travel, and hiking.
