Demonstrating nearly four decades of experience as a physician and professor, Dr. Borenstein possesses a vast skill set and a remarkable list of accomplishments. He has taught at The George Washington University since the earliest days of his career as an assistant professor of medicine. In 1997, Dr. Borenstein became a clinical professor of medicine at the institution, expanding his reach and teaching abilities. In the past, he has been a professor of neurosurgery and professor of medicine at the university. In addition to these roles, Dr. Borenstein has consulted for a number of pharmaceutical companies. Since 2014, he has provided his expertise as a consultant with Medimergent, LLC. In the past, he has consulted for Pfizer Inc., Regeneron LLC, the National Institutes of Health, AbbVie Inc. and a number of other companies. Furthermore, Dr. Borenstein has been the editor-in-chief of inPractice Rheumatology.
To prepare for a career in this line of work, Dr. Borenstein first earned an AB from Columbia University in 1969. He continued at Johns Hopkins University to receive an MD in 1973. He continued at the institution to fulfill an internship and a residency in medicine. From 1976 to 1978, he became a fellow in rheumatology at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to his career in medicine, Dr. Borenstein has supplemented his time with various civic and community work. From 2006 to 2008, he was the vice president of the Arthritis Foundation. He has also served on the executive board of directors and board of directors for the group. Furthermore, Dr. Borenstein has served on the medical advisory board for the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. and on an appellate judicial nominating commission with the state of Maryland.
Dr. Borenstein has been recognized for his work on numerous occasions. In 2011, he received the Marriott Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the President’s Award from the Arthritis Foundation. He has written and contributed to various books and scientific publications. He is the author of such works as, “Pain of Rheumatological Disease in Pain Medicine: An Interdisciplinary Case-Based Approach,” “Arthritic Disorders in The Spine,” and “Neck Pain: Medical Diagnosis.” Dr. Borenstein remains committed to his field with membership to organizations at the SPARTAN Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network, the Patient Access Network Foundation and the American College of Rheumatology.
